AEROBICS AND THE BRAIN

I recently read in the Berkeley Wellness Letter about aerobics and the brain.  The article validated everything that I’ve already witnessed as a personal trainer with my clients.  There is definitely a mind/body connection when it comes to exercise.

“To keep your brain healthy as well as your body, do aerobic exercise.” – says the Berkeley Wellness Letter

What a great reminder! We all want a healthy brain as well as a healthy body.  Studies are validating the effects of aerobics and the brain.

As the article mentions, there was a study done in the Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience that had sedentary people ages 57 to 75 work out one hour three times a week on a stationary bike or treadmill. Twelve weeks later, their cardiovascular health improved and their scores on memory tests were higher than the group that did not exercise. MRI scans confirmed an increased blood flow to parts of the brain indicating higher neuron activity and cognition. So there you have it, my friends. Exercise is good for your mind, your body, and … your soul. 😉

There are all kinds of aerobic exercises you can try! Here are just a few . . . be creative.

  • Running
  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Boxing
  • Dancing
  • Biking
  • Rowing
  • Cardio Classes

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Jogging
  • Water Aerobics

Get out there and do some aerobics today and exercise your brain too!
